MODULE OVERVIEW

Course title

Cellular Biotechnology

Course description

Cellular Biotechnology is a second yr. module taken by Biological Science, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry students.

The module provides an overview of microbial cell biotechnology and mammalian cell biotechnology applications spanning the production of beer and the role of fermentation to the development of novel human cell therapy applications. The module introduces cells (including CAR-T cells), stem cells and organoids and the use of cell-based assays for drug discovery, toxicity testing and the application of cellular therapies. In addition to gaining new practical skills and knowledge about cellular biotechnology, students will also gain an insight into social justice issues associated with human cellular biotechnology and the application of these technologies and therapeutics.
