READINGS & RESOURCES
The following is an incomplete list of publications I drew on during my time on the DISCs project and that I also draw on in my teaching in general.

“What the student does: teaching for enhanced learning”
John Biggs
This is a useful article for thinking about teaching from a student-led perspective.

Pedagogy of the Oppressed
Paulo Freire
A classic text and one I return to time and time again. Essentially, this text is huge influence in how I strive underpin my own critical pedagogy

“The Many Faces of Constructivism”
David Perkins
I aim to use a social constructionist approach in the classroom in the sense of guiding students toward the discovery and acquisition of new knowledge. This short reading usefully articulates this approach.

Gramsci, Freire, and Adult Education: Possibilities for Transformative Action
Peter Mayo
A very useful reading for thinking about what adult education is and what it could and should be.

Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom
bell hooks
An inspirational text that can be returned to time and time again. An excellent aid to prompt person reflection and reflection on one’s teaching.
